I loved this short story, it was well written and erotic. The chemistry and sex was hot and sensual, I hope there's a book two to complete the story. I did not give five stars due the ending felt like a cliffhanger.

I really enjoyed this book. The plot was good and the story held my interest. Evgeni and Athena are very likable characters. The drama and romance were nice and enjoyable. I liked the story and enjoyed this read.

I absolutely loved Evgeni. If that's not a man's man then I don't know who is. He is the type of alpha that loves deeply and pity on anyone that tries to mess with his family. He fell in love with Athena in the very beginning because she was different. She didn't know he was rich when she first met him and it took her longer to fall in love but she did. Evgeni wanted out of the business so he could have a life with Athena. Will he get his wish? So far it looks pretty good but is this the end?

Let Us Build Us a City is a group portrait of 11 "lost towns" in Donald Harington's native Arkansas. Yet this is no mere backwoods travelogue. His book, the author tells us, is "the story of communities that aspired to dignity and achieved serenity." These are towns, in other words, whose ambitious founders never quite managed to merge imagination with reality. "How does a once-flourishing town aspiring to call itself 'City' endure the long days of its decline?" asks Harington. The answer, in most cases, is quite well--though not perhaps in the way its inhabitants intended. One need not be familiar with Arkansas to appreciate this tour of lonely highways; there are lost towns everywhere. But seldom are they explored with such joy and wonder as in this gem of a book.

For all its brilliance, Let Us Build Us a City is nearly impossible to classify. It fuses the travel narrative with history and cultural studies--yet it reads like a novel. It's also a love story that is in no way fictional. Harington begins with a letter from a woman named Kim, who writes to praise his earlier book, Some Other Place, the Right Place. (Since the latter work is itself about a young couple's exploration of ghost towns and their subsequent romance, things immediately get off to a metafictional start.) Kim's letter leads to regular correspondence, in which she details the research she's conducting in one-horse towns throughout Arkansas. The author encourages her, she inspires him, and they agree to collaborate on a book--this one. By the time they meet, they too have learned something of expectation and hope. (Yes, they do get married, although you'll have to read the acknowledgments for details of the ceremony.)

Ultimately, Harington's book is a search for the spirit of each individual place--which is to say, the people. These lost towns are populated by dreamers, outcasts, prevaricators, drunks, madmen, and hermits. There are tales of floods, fires, gold rushes, gunshots, feuds, booms and (mostly) busts, along with other tidbits so strange they could only be true. By themselves, these would be deeply entertaining yarns. In Harington's hands, however, they amount to eloquent requiems for all his stunted cities. And perhaps these Arkansans traded in their dashed dreams for something better. After all, serenity is an admirable quality in a town, even if it happens to be an accidental one. --Shawn Carkonen

Writer Harington enlisted the aid of a high school teacher, a fan of his, to tape record her way around these small Arkansas towns whose common theme is simply that their current situations do not meet former expectations. The natives, including many mayors and law enforcement officials, relate the histories and local lore about the founders, settlers, and Indians of the past and the peculiar and not so peculiar characters of today. Murders, moonshining, race relations, entrepreneurial successes and failures, and Civil War stories loom large. Some of the individual stories and several brief asides (bluegrass music, cyclones, leaving home, etc.) are riveting, but generally the interest is regional. About the Author
Although he was born and raised in Little Rock, Donald Harington spent nearly all of his early summers in the Ozark mountain hamlet of Drakes Creek, his mother's hometown, where his grandparents operated the general store and post office. There, before he lost his hearing to meningitis at the age of twelve, he listened carefully to the vanishing Ozark folk language and the old tales told by storytellers. His academic career was in art and art history because, although determined to become a novelist (he wrote his first one at six), he felt that his ultimate teaching vocation should not interfere with his writing. He has taught art history at a variety of colleges in New York, New England, South Dakota and finally at his alma mater, the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, where he has been lecturing for fifteen years in the same room where he first took courses in art history. He lives in Fayetteville with his wife Kim. His first novel, THE CHERRY PIT, about Little Rock, was published by Random House in 1965, and since then he has published twelve other novels, most all of them set in the Ozark hamlet of his creation, Stay More, based loosely upon Drakes Creek. These include LIGHTNING BUG, SOME OTHER PLACE. THE RIGHT PLACE., THE ARCHITECTURE OF THE ARKANSAS OZARKS, THE CHOIRING OF THE TREES, and, most recently, THIRTEEN ALBATROSSES. He has also written books about artists. He won the Porter Prize in 1987, the Heasley Prize at Lyon College in 1998, was inducted into the Arkansas Writers' Hall of Fame in 1999 and that same year won the Arkansas Fiction Award of Arkansas Library Association. John Guilds in his anthology, ARKANSAS, ARKANSAS, wrote, "if Miller Williams ranks as the greatest poet born, bred, nurtured, and still living in Arkansas, Donald Harington is by the same standards Arkansas's greatest novelist." The Winter 2002 SOUTHERN QUARTERLY is a "Donald Harington Special Issue" with tributes from fellow novelists, scholarly essays, interviews, and a selection of his forty-year correspondence with William Styron.

An American classic.

In this odd mix of travelogue, Americana, love story and history, Donald Harington shows us not just lost cities and lost people and places, but what he calls "lost places in the heart, of vanished life in the hidden places of the soul". And the beautiful thing, the redemption, is that these places aren't lost. In Harington's elegant prose they live on, and will live on as long as this book is read. It deserves to be read in every American history class in the country, because in this book his remembrances and his curiosity open new worlds, just next to and behind this one. Towards the end, when he includes a poem by Richard Hugo, it's as if he's bottled something inside you that you felt but didn't know. A tremendous achievement of remembrance.

The writing itself is excellent. The book isn't sure what kind of book it wants to be, and takes too long to figure it out. I got this as an e-book. It includes photos, which were not clear on the Kindle, and that was disappointing as the pictures were referenced in the story. I was glad to get to the end.

A Treasure Found Off the Beaten Path

It gives me faith in the publishing industry to find this wonderful book still in print. Donald Harington was an established Arkansas novelist when a reader named Kim wrote him out of the blue expressing the inspiration she drew from one of his stories. Harington was lecturing out of state at the time but he responded with encouragement for a project looking into the history of Arkansas places that had "City" in the name and were anything but. So, Kim took off, doing the leg work and dispatching her findings to Harington who eventually shaped them into this symphony of historical fact and human tragedies and comedies. As soon has he was able, he caught up with Kim and the two became instant soul mates. Their own story is woven into this unique blend of fact and imaginative invocation of original intentions and relinquished dreams. A pleasure to read, it sparks curiosity about the cities that never grew up in your own state (the author includes a state by state list) and a desire to go learn their stories. This is a unique story, very human, very American.

I love your web site but I have tried a few of your recipes and they really do not work. I am not a newbie at cooking
so I know what I am doing. However not one of these recipes has turned out I've had to tweak them a bit. The binder is nice in a recipe book.

Be a Grounded Male, then Take Action

Great book to help guys out. First part is talking about being a "grounded male," which essentially means having a purpose and vision for your life. Girls don't want a guy who just messes around. Finding your purpose though, isn't an easy thing to do, and it's not something you will just develop. This book is saying that if you're a failure or success it doesn't matter, girls just want to see the drive.

2nd part is basically saying, take action. It talks about the idea of just walking up to a girl without a script and saying, "Hi, I'm ____, I want to get to know you." This is good advice, versus the scores of gurus with "opening routines." Girls can see past that and it's annoying. Do you really want to know her sign? Or is it just so you can get her talking? (Neil Strauss profiles "chick crack" in his book The Game.) So taking action is the most important thing, and Andrew provides a clear roadmap for this. Once you start, you may not be good at pickup/dating, but do it consistently over 3 months, 6 months, 24 months, you'll become a star because you'll understand what works for you.

A few things though, the marketing says, "$10 to finding your dream girl." I understand this, but just because you buy this book doesn't definitely mean you will find your dream girl, and there's no time frame specified. You still have to take action, deal with failure and rejection, and maybe you will find your true love one day. So, it's not that simple just by buying a book you'll find your dream girl.

A few grammar errors as well, and after every chapter you are prompted to sign up for a program, etc. I get that he's trying to promote his programs but if this were a physical book, it would seem more like a sales pitch than a book. Maybe people are okay with it because it's a Kindle version.

A big part of finding a woman is being yourself. There are many tips and tricks in here to go out with a woman, but at the end of the day, it comes down to be genuine and vulnerable. If you're just reading off a playbook every time you want to go out with someone, you're not being as genuine as you can be since you're just following instruction. LeBron doesn't follow an exact playbook when he steps on the court, because if he did then his talents would be washed away by rules.

So the more you go out, the more you will develop your swag, but don't forget to treat dating as a genuine, interpersonal experience, not like a checklist of things that you did or haven't done to get a girl into bed, or to find your "dream girl."

A curious blend of practical and idealistic

David Deida meets RSD principles in Ferebee's seminal piece. I found the most value in the latter two thirds of the book which covers the practicalities from approach/talking to women, to logistics/texting, to the bedroom, to being in a relationship.

The book is very ambitious and tries to cover almost the entire gamut of dating issues including mindsets, values, philosophies etc. and as a consequence not every area gets as much depth and attention as some readers may like. On the other hand, the book manages to cover a lot of ground given its size, and goes far to demystify dating as a whole.

As his first book, I feel that Andrew's 'writer's voice' is still maturing; bookwriting is an art form that requires some experience to get some of the nuances mastered – and these are different from blogging. This doesn't however, detract from his message which comes across as authentic and to the point. I think this is where his real strength is; finding the motivational crux of key life issues, such as 'if you don't pursue your dreams and ambitions, the time will pass anyway, or that our fears, insecurities and things we let hold us back, pale in the face of death' – he doesn't directly say these things in the book, but they're themes I've heard him talk about before in his videos, and I admire the way he delivers them with conviction and congruence. The 'writer's voice' isn't really an issue during the practical elements of the books, and perhaps I'm being overly pedantic, as I can see from other reviews that many have been inspired by the writing. When it comes to the big idea stuff of the book however, such as what it means to be a 'Grounded Man', I feel that if Andrew can convey such ideas in future writing/wordsmanship with the conviction and congruence he conveys in his videos, he'll move from competence to mastery as a writer.

So it's really good to see (and read) stories not just written by ...

It's “a given” that most erotica readers are female. Men, we are told, are visual, and go for visual stuff. I have doubts here, but even if it's generally true, I think we can safely assume that there is a written erotica category that caters predominantly to men. That this category is populated by stories of female dominance/male submission is just another example of how male-sub/fem-dom material, ostensibly being all about female pleasure, is in fact one of the most male-desire-centered niches.

So it's really good to see (and read) stories not just written by but appealing to dominant/sadistic women. And Pet Gentleman certainly does have such an appeal.

I really like Pearl O'Leslie blog – both the sexy posts and the thoughtful ones - but I was reluctant to give this novella length piece a go, because I'm not a huge fan of non-consent fantasies. But I'm glad I did and Pet Gentleman worked nicely for me.

Maybe it was the setting? I'm a sucker for world building and the totalitarian, Anglo-Ruritanian steam-punkish universe of Pet Gentleman both appealed in itself and added plausibility to the story.

Or maybe it was the convincingly effective way in which the main character utilized Stockholm Syndrome, classic torture/brainwashing techniques and behaviorist conditioning to break and recreate her subject and yet remained strangely human in that. And it was fun to imagine myself with her set of skills, her resources - and her lack of scruples. I'd like to know more of Anette's inner workings and of the world she inhabits to see where her sense of selfish entitlement and amoral innocence come from. If the title of the next installment in the series is anything to go by, some reveals might be coming. I'm looking forward to them.

As to Philip/Adam, I wanted more insight. He is neither a masochistic sub or an evildoer in need of punishment. He's Anette's project, picked for reasons having nothing to do with HIS sexuality. His inner transformation, although partially explained by his treatment, remains a bit of mystery. He's stoic and noble and rather good at that whole enduring thing (yummmm) but isn't he bothered by his growing mental enslavement and attraction? At least internally? And if not, why not? There's a bit about that towards the end, but I'd have loved more, on that and on his sexual evolution, throughout the story.

I can feel anybody reading this getting impatient. "This is erotica! Stop going on about world construction and characters and tell us about the sexy bits! Were they hot? Did you come?"

OK then. They were hot. Some very hot. Anette's sadism is thorough but within realms of realism, her arousal in response to Philip's pain and the sight and feel of his marked body convincing and very relateable, her utter selfishness both delightful and chilling.

And I did.

Very well written. I typically only enjoy Femdom novels that are consensual. This one was an exception to that rule. Philip/Adam was a political prisoner who had the luck of catching the eye of Annette who is politically connected to the ruling class. She elects to take ownership of Philip and begins to mold him into her ideal. Philip observes that when she is cruel too him Annette becomes sexually aroused. He doesn't seem to have a submissive nature at the start but the tortures he undergoes and the steamy hot love making that often follow, result in his compliancy toward Annette. Philip seldom does anything to displease her so I don't fully understand the motivation behind her harsh treatment of him other than she is simply turned on by her own sadism. Wow! As the story ends a strong and loving bond is developing between them as Philip seems to be in complete (consensual at this point) submission to her will. I can't wait for part 2 of this one!!
