About the Author

Kathleen M. Haywood, PhD, is a professor and associate dean for graduate education at the University of Missouri–St. Louis, where she researches life span motor development and teaches courses in motor behavior and development, sport psychology, and biomechanics. She earned her PhD in motor behavior from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1976.

Haywood is a fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology and the Research Consortium of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD). She has served as president of the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity and as chairperson of the Motor Development Academy of AAHPERD. Haywood is also a recipient of AAHPERD’s Mabel Lee Award.

Haywood is also the coauthor of the first, second, and third editions of Archery: Steps to Success and Teaching Archery: Steps to Success and coauthor of Life Span Motor Development, also published by Human Kinetics. She resides in Saint Charles, Missouri. In her free time she enjoys fitness training, tennis, and dog training.

Mary Ann Roberton, PhD, is professor emeritus and past director of the School of Human Movement, Sport, and Leisure Studies at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. Roberton has been researching and writing about motor development for over 35 years and is well known for her study of developmental sequences in motor development and its application for physical education teachers and physical therapists. In addition to Advanced Analysis of Motor Development, Roberton has authored one scholarly book, several book chapters, numerous journal articles, and invited and refereed papers.

In 2011 Roberton received the Hall of Fame Award from the National Association for Sport and Physical Education. She is a fellow of the Research Consortium of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) and was inducted as a fellow into the National Academy of Kinesiology in 2003.

A distinguished faculty member, Roberton was awarded the Faculty Mentor Award in 2000 from Bowling Green State University. Honoring her service to the university and the profession, the Mary Ann Roberton Outstanding Thesis Award and Mary Ann Roberton Outstanding Project Award were established in 1999 by the faculty of the School of Human Movement, Sport, and Leisure Studies at Bowling Green State University. Roberton resides in Madison, Wisconsin. Retired since 2005, she remains active in research and scholarship. In her free time she enjoys swimming, cycling, and reading.

Nancy Getchell, PhD, is an associate professor at the University of Delaware in Newark. She has taught courses in motor development, motor control and learning, research methods, and women in sport. For nearly 20 years, Getchell has focused her research on motor development.

She is a fellow of the Research Consortium of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD). She is a member of the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity, the International Society of Motor Control, and AAHPERD. Getchell also served as the section editor for the Growth and Motor Development section of Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport from 2005 to 2009 and chairperson of the AAHPERD Motor Development and Learning Academy.

In 2001, Getchell was the recipient of the Lolas E. Halverson Young Investigators Award in motor development. She earned a PhD in kinesiology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1996. Getchell resides in Wilmington, Delaware, where she enjoys hiking, playing soccer, and bicycling.

High expectations, failed to deliver

The book is inappropriately titled. It is not an analysis of motor development, much less an "advanced" one. It is a basic primer on research design, hypothesis testing, data gathering techniques, and evaluation in the field of motor development. There's no analysis of motor development. Just analysis of analysis of motor development.

I had been looking for exactly what it claimed to be and was excited to find it. As an academically minded teacher who loves anatomy, physiology, kinetics and research, I am probably very close to the ideal audience for an acadmic text on motor development. Never before has it been greeted with such excitement upon landing on a kitchen countertop in a little brown envelope.

It was a few chapters before the trouble became clear. That the authors managed to mis-title their own book reflects the overall quality of the writing. The book vacillates between elementary explanations and assumptions of extensive background knowledge. I wouldn't mind if the whole thing were over my head ... I'm more than glad to hang on for the ride and catch what I can. Instead, the text alternates between spoon-feeding and impenetrable. Sentence after sentence was strained far beyond its load-bearing weight, collapsing into academic babble.

The recurring section titled "Tips for novice researchers" struck me as somewhat patronizing the first time it appeared ... but I hoped that I could forgive the authors this mild insult as I enjoyed the book and got to know them. (How about just, "Tips for effective research"?) But sadly, there was no getting to know any of the authors. I'm sure I would enjoy them in person, but any traces of warmth or personality were apparently sucked out in the board-room of co-authoring.

Compared to this dry and lifeless text, the writing of Mabel Elsworth Todd ("The Thinking Body") is poetry. "Living, the whole body carries its meaning and tells its own story, standing, sitting, walking, awake or asleep." In her beautifully archaic 1937 English, she brings the same rigorous scientific study to the human body, but still allowing the reader to share her sense of fascination and wonder. The difficulty of understanding her writing comes from the difficulty of the subject matter, rather than deficits in the writing.

I would recommend this book for falling asleep at night, but sadly it is too heavy. So, an expensive and ugly green paperweight.

If this is required for your class, I assume the research analysis is fine (which is the reason I am giving it 3 stars instead of 1). But if by chance you're getting it because you find the human body to be marvelous and fascinating, and/or you would like to actually know how motor learning develops ... you'd be better off just having kids and staying home to watch.

Slade Carmichael can’t wait for the mate-dreaming to start so he get started on the next chapter of his life in this sizzling paranormal romance.

Charm and sizzle draw the reader into this passionate romance as Gretchen decides that being mated to a tiger might not be so bad after all. The characters are strong, charming and full of steamy desires as their attraction heats up the pages and their feisty natures send sparks flying in every direction and quite a few chuckles in this fast paced, smooth flowing and well written plot that capture the imagination with lots of excitement and passion.

Once again, I was beyond charmed by this Saber-tooth tiger pride although I have to say I am really looking forward to reading Caleb’s story and finding just who he gets matched up with.

I was given a ACR to read and give my honest opinion

This is a FANTASTIC storyline R.E. has again given us great entertainment I was hooked, charmed and reeled in from the first paragraph of this Saber-tooth tiger pride series and it gets better and better. Ms. Butler is a fabulous storyteller, she makes you feel as you are a character in the story. The description feels so real as if you have stayed multiple times in the hotel. The storyline is one that continues to compels you to keep turning page after page until you are finish with the story. Also I love when the story keeps you smiling and laughing as you read. The story is also mind-blowing, charming, fascinating and steamy hot as it draws you into this passionate romance. The characters are strong, captivating, sensual, attractive and full of your steamy fantasies as their chemistry heats and burns the pages. Their natures are witty, fiesty and do the sparks fly. The plot is fast paced but flows smooth and is well written. As I said there is a few laughs that will capture your imagination with lots of passion. The excitement of the characters dialogue is alluring, fetching and charismatic.

Slade Carmichael is andimspating his mate-dreaming to start now his brother has found his mate. But as is catch sight of Gretchen he shifts because he sense his mate. Gretchen decides that being mated to a tiger isn't so bad as a matter fact it's all what's she has been looking for. Now Slade can get started on the next chapter of his life in this sizzling awesome paranormal romance.

Oh You can not help but love R.e Butler books!. She is an amazing writer!. I have so much fun reading her books!. She has such an awesome sense of humor it shows in her writing!. This book is one of the examples!. The story line is funny and sweet and quirky!. This series is about four siblings Alaric,Slade,Galen and Lia who are on a quest to find their true mates. The siblings are Saber tooth tiger shifters they are the last of their kind. They Joined the National werefighting Association NWFA to travel to find their mates. When they stop in at the town of Belle Terra Alaric found his mate in human Aubrey. Aubrey is the Sister of the towns Master Vampire Caleb. Aubrey works at Calebs Supernatural hotel and lives there. So after her and Alaric mate she lines up for all of them to stay at the hotel. This is where Slade meets his Feisty mate werewolf Gretchen who is Aubrey's Bf. When Slade gets an eye full of his mate he passes out lol. Then when he comes to he can not stop his shift into his tiger!. So now they have a Saber tooth Tiger in the hotel lobby lol. As I said R.e has an amazing sense of humor!. Now that the two older brothers found their mates its time for Galen to find his. Normally they have dreams of their mate that gives them hints to their true mate is , but all Galen dreams about is the colors Pink and Gold lol. You will so love this sweet and funny five star plus plus Romance!

This volume consists of lectures delivered during my tenure of the Chair of Poetry at Oxford and not included in Shakespearean Tragedy. Most of them have been enlarged, and all have been revised. As they were given at intervals, and the majority before the publication of that book, they contained repetitions which I have not found it possible wholly to remove. Readers of a lecture published by the University of Manchester on English Poetry and German Philosophy in the Age of Wordsworth will pardon also the restatement of some ideas expressed in it.

The several lectures are dated, as I have been unable to take account of most of the literature on their subjects published since they were delivered.

They are arranged in the order that seems best to me, but it is of importance only in the case of the four which deal with the poets of Wordsworth's time.

About the Author
Andrew Cecil Bradley was born in 1851 in Cheltenham. He was the son of a clergyman and the younger brother of the philosopher F.H. Bradley. He received his education at Cheltenham College and at Balliol College, Oxford, where he became a fellow in 1874, lecturing in Philosophy and English. In 1882 Bradley became the first Professor of Literature and History at Liverpool, and later on Professor of English Language and Literature at Glasgow from 1890, and Professor of Poetry at Oxford from 1901 until 1906, when he retired from academic life.

The master critic on Shakespeare, Keats, Shelley, Wordsworth

This set of essays by the master Shakespeare critic A.C. Bradley contains essays on :Poetry for Poetry's Sake, The Sublime, Hegel's Theory of Tragedy, Wordsworth, Shelley's View of Poetry, The Long Poem in the Age of Wordsworth, The Letters of Keats, The Rejection of Falstaff, Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra, Shakespeare the Man, Shakespeare's Theatre and Audience.
I especially enjoyed the essay on Keats where Bradley focuses on the meaning of Beauty in Keats' letters. His appreciation of the remarkable character of Keats and how this is reflected both in the Letters and the Poems is instructive. The essay on Shakespeare the Man I found a bit speculative , yet another attempt to say something about the character of the character who mastered and made so many different characters. It is interesting that Bradley believes that Shakespeare is the poet who best exemplified Keats' prescription for what a poet ideally should be, one whose negative capability means he is within and without all the characters he creates. The essay on Wordsworth focuses on his originality especially in finding in the simplicities of daily life, and in simple characters the deepest expressions of human soul.
But there is much more than I have indicated here . This is a classic set of essays by one of the English literary traditions, most important critics.

A C Bradley at his best

I am a fan of the writings of A C Bradley, in my mind the finest critic of William Shakespeare. As opposed to "Shakesperean Tragedy". his epic, this book contains criticism of authors other than Shakespeare, although his criticism of Anthony and Cleopatra is superb. Any one who enjoys Shakesperean criticism will, I think, find much to enjoy in this book.

About the Author

Dr. Mike Peng Li was the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) with Wavecrest. He is now a Principle Architecture/Distinguished Engineer with Altera. Dr. Li pioneered the jitter separation method (Tailfit); deterministic jitter (DJ), random jitter (RJ), and total jitter (TJ) concept and theory formation; and the jitter transfer function (JTF) concept, theory, and application for high-speed serial link analysis. He has set and contributed to standards for jitter, noise, and signal integrity for leading serial data communications, such as Fibre Channel, Gigabit Ethernet, Serial ATA, PCI Express, FB DIMM, and International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS). He has been the cochairman of the PCI Express jitter standard committee. Dr. Li has been involved in technical committees for IEEE- and IEC-sponsored technical conferences, such as International Test Conference (ITC) and DesignCon. He is a frequent speaker, invited author/speaker, panelist, and session and panel chair on the subjects of jitter/noise and signal integrity, covering both design and testing. He has received many awards, including a design paper award from DesignCon/IEC and a contribution award from PCI-SIG. He has been listed in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World since 2006.

            Dr. Li has more than 15 years of experience in high-speed-related measurement instrumentation, testing, and analysis/modeling algorithms and tools, with applications in IC, microprocessor, clock, serial data communications for electrical and optical, and wireless communication. He has a BS in physics from the University of Science and Technology in China and an MSE in electrical engineering and a PhD in physics from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He did his post-doctorate work at the University of California, Berkeley, where he worked as a research scientist on high-energy astrophysics before he joined industry. Dr Li has published more than 80 papers in refereed technical journals and conferences. He has filed 12 patents, with four granted and eight pending. He was the executive editor for Design and Test for Multiple Gbps Communication Devices and Systems and wrote two contributing chapters on jitter, signal integrity, and high-speed I/O design and testing for two books.

not up to the hype

The jitter area was really needing some new books and altough this book should be added to the library of any engineer working on jitter (there are not that many) it does fall short from what the author promisses. He does present a good initial discussion on the different types of jitter but the presented mathematical framework (mainly based on linear system theory) is very dry (sometimes of no use apart from some formalism) and provides little help to the engineer doing real work. More important the author basically presents mainly presents his work and forgets a significant large amount of published work from other people (for a first book on jitter in several years the reference sections are very very poor). The Signal Integrity aspect the book is extremly poor and the loopback testing section is useless (again forgeting a lot of industry work already available).

Unbelievable also is no in dept discussion on the jitter details of any standards (PCI expres, etc...) altough the author was part of some those comittes. The arguments presented against the BER Q based jitter separation algortithm are strange (he states that since an erfc() function is not part of the C++ standard library it is not easy to write the code !!! There are several free implementations of the erfc() function available) for good and bad this is the algorithm on the PCI Express II standard and just because he is not the inventor of the algorithm we engineers need to use it and a fair and wider discussion was needed.

The text does contain some errors and for a book that has so many equations the author should have used a word processor that could make the text/equations more easy to read (e.g. latex) and not MS word.

But at the moment there is not to much in the jitter area in book form. So if you have the time to spend on it go ahead.

In this book, Mike Li offers an experienced perspective of the role jitter and signal integrity play in modern high-speed communication. While incorporating his own contributions to the modeling and testing of jitter in systems, his book provides a broader basis of understanding to the student seeking to build a foundation on the complexities of signal integrity at high-speeds.

The material of this book is a significant departure from other texts that discuss high-speed signal integrity. It focuses on the fundamentals of how different phenomena lead to different source of jitter and ISI and how we, as system designers, can untangle these problems. The text seeks to clearly distinguish different definitions of jitter and how these variously used terms are interrelated. Most importantly, the flow of the book helps demonstrate how jitter propagates through the system and helps analyze jitter in different system blocks.

This an important and exciting are at the heart of future high-speed electrical and optical and this is one of the first books that deciphering the challenges facing engineers in maintaining communication reliability.
