Beautiful and Informative

A beautiful book by one of the masters of the technique. Numerous reproductions used to illustrate all aspects of light and shadow in watercolour, and Willis pretty much covers every angle. I particularly enjoyed the "Themes and Variations" section, which demonstrates her range, as well as the possibilities of working in watercolour. So lovely to look at that it works as both a coffee table book and a manual. Highly recommended for anyone interested in watercolour or painting in general.

This is a Beautiful Book!

From the introduction to the index, there are pictures of Lucy Willis' gorgeous paintings on every page, including double-page spreads, and each picture is accompanied by comments about choice of location, how it was affected by light or shade, or how she went about painting it. The book is packed with information, including five demonstrations. It's not a book which covers how to do basic washes, etc., but complete beginners (and I am one) can learn so much about the interaction of sunlight and shadows. This is not only a detailed book, but a lovely book to simply enjoy reading.

This was a fun book about a little boy who loves to build things especially exciting marble runs for the entertainment of himself, as well as his favorite kitty, who loves to chase the runaway marbles from the marble runs. He is heartbroken when his kitty escapes during a trip to the animal doctor, but thanks to his favorite marble game the kitty comes home safe and sound. This is a fun read for any little person, boy or girl, who loves exciting games, and of course Kitty cats.

Great illustrations, happy ending

I found this to be a cute story that is a quick, easy read-along for younger children. Although the story features a cat as the family pet, it can be an especially fun book for a family that has a close bond with any type of pet. It is beautifully illustrated and features a happy ending. I recommend it and think you'll be happy with your choice on this one. It would make a great gift for the grandkids or anybody in your world with little ones.

My son LOVES this book!!! He LOVES the story. He LOVES the anime style. He LOVES the illustrations of Declan and all the colorful marble runs and the cats. He reads it over and over and over again. It's a very fun book with a wonderful message and a happy ending. I would highly recommend it.

Though it remained generally a sideline, there was enough patronage and popular interest in printmaking for artists to earn a living. And artists to the north, notably Albrecht D rer, were reaching a wider audience through editions made at their workshops. Lincoln (history of art and architecture, Brown Univ.) gives us a clear indication of the spread of printmaking as a vocation in Italy. She centers on three artists living in different cities: Andrea Mantegna in Mantua, Domenico Beccafumi in Siena, and Diana Mantuana (Diana Scultori) in Rome. Using these examples, Lincoln covers more than geography and stylistic preferences. The reader gains insight into the Italian economy, the court and guild systems, and the life of a female artist during the Renaissance. I loved the Servant of the Crown so even though the ...

I loved the Servant of the Crown so even though the book description was not for my taste ( tribes, wars and weird country names) , I wanted to give it a try and I'm glad I did it !

What I loved
1) You don't have to read the first book ( Although you should, if you like romance)...
2) Mix K.F. Breene's The Warrior Chronicles and Rae Carson's Fire and Thorns series and finish the story in one book !
3) I loved how fast was the book. I managed not to sleep until 2 am but gave up and finished in the morning.
4) Normally I don't like fighting scenes. But in this book, I looked forward to read it.
5) It is amazing the difference between the two books. They are like 5* in different genres... ( There is still romance so don't worry or behold !)

What could be better for me
- Imogen is one of the best warriors. I loved the scenes with Victory but I wish I could read her sparring. When she wasn't allowed training, I was waiting her to be in another country so I can read about it but there was only fighting in war scenes...
- She has learned the new language really fast but then, she didn't improve at all...
- And in both books the male characters can be stronger... Objectively they are excellent characters, but not for these women, because they are extraordinary,,,,

Great fantasy/adventure story with lots of action and strong characters with a touch of romance, highly recommended reading

Excellent second book for this series. Lots of great new characters and plenty of action. Strong plot with great flow to the writing. This story allows the heroine to grow and develop as a character so don't expect just some rough warrior to stay constant throughout this book.

There is a nice balance between the political intrigue and the violent battles. The romance is fairly lightweight but the constant new problems having to be assessed and dealt with by the heroine will keep it interesting for the guys and there is enough romance for the ladies so appreciate as well.

Highly recommended reading for anyone who loves fantasy/adventure novels.

Couldn't put it down!

I liked this book even more than the first book in the series. It was exciting to explore another society in this world and one that is so different than the main one.

There are different 'books' in this novel. I really appreciated getting to know the main protagonist without a romance lead, and then introducing the lead much later in the novel. It was great that she was a strong leader and a strong warrior without needing to rely on any man.

Excellent writing, great character development, and an interesting plotline!

David Alexander (BA, Oxford University) and Pat Alexander (BA, Bristol University) are the founders of Lion Publishing, where for 23 years David was director and chair and Pat was editorial director for adult, children's, and educational lists. Together they produced the original Lion Handbook to the Bible.

Terrific Up to Date Bible Handbook

I use this every morning when I have my quiet time. I can assure you that it is conservative in its theological approach, and it gives short, but sweet summaries of each chapter of the Bible. It also has articles sprinkled throughout the book with more information.

The book gives a pre 70 AD date for the book of Hebrews, and holds to the Pauline authorship of 1,2 Timothy and Titus.

I like using this book because I can consult it quickly and get substantial information to aid me in my time in God's word. I give it a high recommendation. It is a more up to date and reliable handbook than any other one I have seen.

Great teaching resource

At last a book about the bible from Zondervan which does not spend most of the time telling you what to beleive and how to do it by getting itself into improbable tangles trying to eliminate the discrepancies between various books of the bible.

This volume will be ideal for teaching as it presents the information in a neutral manner, leaving the user to look further if so desired. A good basis from which to build further.

A very big plus is that the majority of the contributors are British. That is so refereshing. It makes one ask why Oxford had to use US contributors with their strange English usage to annotate the Revised English Bible.

This handbook is the kind of volume which will not only prove its worth in the classroom, but it invites the reader to pick it up and browse. Many an interesting tidbit of information has been acquired whilst browsing.

Zondervan Handbook to the Bible

Unlike other reviewers, I firmly believe this book belongs in any and all church libraries. So many people wonder what to make of scriptures and this book provides keen insight. It is well organized and suberbly edited. When combined with the rich illustrations, this book is a bargain for what Amazon is asking for it.

At the outset, the editors state why this book is important, a companion to both Bible and individual. Is it the only Bible handbook one should own? Probably not, as other opinions will help readers gain much more perspective. But clearly this book belongs alongside other handbooks so the reader can obtain a full appreciation for what the Bible says. If people are strong in their faith, editorial statements shouldn't cause them to doubt God's word.
