Now That We Found Love, What Are We Gonna Do With It

At the end of Book 2, my heartbeat was out of control. Pit pat, pit pat. Rock in my chair. Get up, look out the window. Yes, yes Twyla ended the book on an "OMG, how much more can these two take." There is a breaking point. There is always a breaking point. I was so vested in these two that I could not fathom what was going on for them and to them. Where is the justice. Where is the peace. The love these two had for each other, built on and around pain and understanding, the sacrifices that they were willing to take, the pain they were willing to endure, I was in awe.

What I loved about this book, the Author is as fully committed as the two main characters at getting it just right. This third book did not take forever to come out and the angst did not take forever to settle. We are left making this love and healing work. To remove obstacles and do the necessary work to be free. It was a Cinderella/Cinderfella story, just not the one we grew up with. Their foundation was retrofitted with realistic building blocks, unshakeable. Their love was such that they fought and shadow boxed with life to cling to each other. There were issues of superficiality and entitlement introduced and quickly overlooked. I had one and only one question, the couple are on the way to becoming a force of nature as a major power couple, they do not like what that brings to the table, are they going to give it away? Be ordinary when they were meant to be and live extraordinarily? Loved this series with my whole heart. Life, not love, is painful. Twyla...

OUTSTANDING

I was given an ARC for an honest review.
I have been on a journey with this series for the past year. I was introduced to the writings of Twyla Turner last year and became a loyal fan right away.
Healing is the conclusion, to the story of Lexi and Sloan, two individuals battling their own demons, but fighting to stay together and live their happily ever after. The final book took me on an emotional rollercoaster that I can’t even explain. One would have to read the previous books to understand and enjoy this story. Sloan and Lexi are finally doing well in their careers and both have developed a somewhat strong sense of self-worth, of course doubt raises and the turmoil comes to life again. Yes I wanted to hurt Sloan at some point for his cowardly behavior on his decision concerning him and Lexis relationship, but I held on! As for Lexi I wanted to shake her ever so often, but had to remember how much baggage she was trying to overcome. These two together are fire, I love how they love, and they have a connection that cannot be ignored. This love story is BEAUTIFUL! If I could give this 10 plus stars I would. I could keep on writing; however all I can say is if you want a damn good read, this is it. Twyla has done it again, solid writing, emotional journey, sexy, sexy love making, and a new playlist for you music fans (When you get this book you will understand). Well done TT!!

I am sad to see that this is the conclusion of Lexi ...

I received this book as a ARC for my honest review. This is the final installment of a three book series. I am sad to see that this is the conclusion of Lexi and Sloan's story. It starts right where Open Wounds ended. This is a page turner that will make you cry, get mad and laugh. And it will have you rooting for them and cheering when the finally get their happy ending.

Aaron and Victoria make a brief appearance trying to start drama to break them up. I don't want to give too much away of the book for those who have not read it yet. I highly recommend this series. You have to read Scarred then Open Wounds to understand what they both have to overcome to find peace and happiness. Job well done Twyla Turner. So what do you have next coming out that I am dying to read

great Aquinas starting point

This book packs a lot of material. As an anthology, as the other reviewer has ably mentioned, this is wonderful. This book would be extremely useful to the student of Christian theology (Roman Catholic or Protestant) or to the student of historical philosophy. If you are studying the works of Aquinas for history, a few words of caution. A lot of his philosophy is based on Aristotle. If you do not understand basic Aristotle, this can be painful at times. "Actualize" and "potential" and sufficient causes, etc. will appear a lot. If you are unfamiliar with what this terminology means, you will have slow going. This is just a problem with some philosophy. Kant, another member of the big-5 team of greatest philosophers, also suffers from a language barrier to modern readers. But like Kant, you can still get a lot out of it.
The editor of this book has put in a lot of useful and wonderful theology of Aquinas. This is good b/c not many people believe in his metaphysics anymore. So his theology may have more modern usefullness. Given his influence over Western Christianity and Roman Catholicism in particular, Aquinas is definitely worth the read. One of the small gems (and unexpected) was a part of Aquinas' commentary on I Cor. 15. Sections on the Problem of Evil are in here as well. I was surprised, but glad, to see that the editor left in a section on the problem of using language to describe God. This was a typical 20th century problem. It's good to see that there aren't many new philosophical problems.
If you are just getting into Aquinas (and you have some background in philosophy) this is a good place to start. If you are interested in theology, there is much in here for you as well. Given the structure of the book, you do not have to read straight through.

Great for Theology Beginners and Aquinas Lovers! Great translation and numerous resources inside the book!

This is a great collection of philosophical writings by Thomas Aquinas.

Some things I really enjoyed about this collection in particular is that it is arranged in a way that every passage builds on the previous, connecting them, which is magnificent seeing as they are from all his different writing collections, like Summa Theologica, Summa Gentiles, Malo, and so on. Being able to connect one reading from Summa Theologica to the next one from Malo is absolutely brilliant!

The translation was also amazing, as it really kept the true essence of Aquinas while still keeping it sensical.

I have to say, I was thrilled by this. It is great for introductory theology classes, or if you just have a passion for Aquinas but do not know where to start.

It also has an index, notes, and many other helpful resources in the book to help guide your understanding of the reading.

Altogether, I would highly recommend it.

A model anthology

McDermott has provided the general reader with an excellent introduction to the substance of Aquinas's thought. Selections are taken from several works, not just the Summa Theologiae, and are arranged in an orderly manner that contributes much to the usefulness of this book. The first section discusses the division of the sciences; the second, ontology; the third, titled "The Ladder of Being," covers such topics as life and the soul, the senses, the mind, and the will. Following this come three large sections on God, filling more than half of the book. Each of the many passages begins with brief headnotes giving the origin of the passage, the philosophical genre to which it belongs, and translation notes on principal Latin terms. McDermott includes very little commentary of his own--Aquinas speaks for himself. The text is laid out very clearly with the judicious use of italics, brackets, and boldface type, all serving to clarify how Aquinas structured his arguments.
Recommended to anyone interested in Aquinas, but do not expect a condensed version of the Summa.

not worth it

This book was recommended to me by a number of people, so I picked up a copy. To be honest, I was a little dissappointed. The descriptions of each compound are short and not all that informative. They reiterate a lot of the standard rhetoric by comparing everything to either LSD or MDMA. Some of the stuff about fentanyl analogues is interesting,..., this book is definately not worth it. Your money would be much better spent on either PiHKAL or TiHKAL by the good Dr. Shulgin (half the references in "Designer Drugs Directory" are from these books anyway).

Follow Caitlin and Phil's exploits as they wend their way through their first year of college and find intrigue behind the curtain of academia. As you do, you'll find a few words in boldface, each of which is defined and compared with other words in a glossary in the back of the book. Seeing the word in its context and immediately finding a definition is a much more satisfying way to learn than just to read word after unconnected word--you might as well read the dictionary! Great SAT preparation, ok story

Tooth and Nail is a fun mystery story that contains many SAT-level words in boldface and has a glossary in the back. I found this to be an effective way of increasing my vocabulary, because I got to see each word used in context. In combination with studying word roots (etymology), reading this book helped me increase my SAT I verbal score about 170 points. Why aren't there more SAT preparation books like this?
The story itself is about two incoming college freshmen who gradually find out that strange things are going on around the campus. It's not the most enjoyable story, but it is interesting and relevant to people who are preparing for the SAT (and, as others have said, a whole lot more fun than memorizing word lists).

Learning words in context is the best approach

Learning words in context is a great idea. It's the only method that works. This book was released in 1994 and for several years was the only one of its kind. But there are three new additions in this format--from Barrons, Kaplan, and A. J. Cornell Publications. Some people have complained that with this book it's problematic to have all the words at the back, in a glossary--because you have to keep stopping to find them back there. I agree with that. At least one of the above-mentioned books--The Wizard of Oz Vocabulary Builder--places the definitions on the same page as the words, and it seems to work well. Perhaps the next edition of this book can be reformatted that way.

OK, But not worth your studying time

While I found the story in this book quite interesting, I do not think that it significantly improved my vocabulary. By using an "SAT Word" once in the book, I did not learn that word. The same words should have been repeated more than once, when possible. Perhaps, as another review suggested, the definitions should appear at the bottom of the page and not in the back - constantly flipping to the glossary was detrimental to my reading experience. I would not reccomend buying this book to learn vocabulary words, although I think the approach has some merit.
