Wow, did J.S. Morbius ever keep me guessing with this! He throws a number of twists at the reader, changing not only the course of the plot but the entire feel of the story. From Martin to Martina is that rare erotic novella that manages to genuinely surprise and delight from beginning to end.

The development of Martin and the evolution of his fetish/identity is at the core of the story. It all begins with an appreciation for women's lingerie - something his girlfriend refuses to wear it. Before long, Martin isn't just pleasuring himself with handfuls of satin and lace, but actually wearing it. What started out as a simple lingerie fetish quickly evolves into full-on crossdressing, while an encounter with an sympathetic shop owner leads him to question his very identity.

With elements of both transvestism and transsexualism, this is a positive exploration of gender and sexuality. Martin and Mandy are both fantastic characters, and their interactions are really at the heart of that exploration. They only have one truly erotic scene together, but it culminates in one of the most sensual climaxes I've ever encountered on the page. Sally is a hard character to like, especially through the middle of the novel, but the resolution of her character arc is another genuinely satisfying surprise.

I don't want to spoil any of those twists I mentioned earlier, so I'll just advise readers to be patient, and to trust where the story is going. It does get rather dark and sorrowful in the middle, but From Martin to Martina is not a tragedy, it's an erotic romance . . . and the resolution is just delightful.

Huh, didn't see that coming!

I really enjoyed reading the latest release from J.S. Morbius. It wasn't at all what I was expecting. Knowing his transgendered style, I expected the story of a man slowly becoming a woman, but that's not what happens to Martin! The characters were constantly surprising me and even at the end I was left with a 'huh, didn't see that coming.'

A story of a different life style

This story was a little hard to handle because the subject was foreign to me. The story does involve love and Sally's back story touched me deeply. We see why she acts the way she does and that she loves him. We see why she does what she does when she finds out. It is Sally who makes this story work. She is one of the most interesting characters I've experienced in a long time. Without her this is just a fetish story.

*sigh* I truly hate to be mean.

I truly hate writing bad reviews. I mean I actually made it all the way through the book. This book had potential. It was non-stop action if you like that type of book. The problem was that there are a lot of mistakes in the book. I'm not talking poor grammar, but the wrong word inserted instead of a simple misspelling. Also incorrect sayings 'death keel' instead of 'death knell'.

The author has obviously never had a flat on a motorcycle, explosive decompression of the rear wheel of a motorcycle will cause the bike to fishtail as the rear tire has no purchase it will fail to grasp the road. Both tires being blown out will just cause the bike to immediately flip out from under you no matter how experienced a rider you are. This is especially true with a passenger because you will not be able to work together well enough to keep the bike under control.

Another issue is the two 'spies' in the book. The male is a young Bond wanna be who is just irritating and the female well, she proves this author shouldn't write female characters. Her first response to the protagonist is to refer to her as 'Bitch" and to come off with a 'you best keep your hands off my man' attitude (the other spy). The protagonist at one point early on is tortured and is still squeamish about hurting the mercenaries sent to capture her to take her back to the lab where she was tortured... so they can torture her more to study the nano-tech.

This might be a good read for Teen/YA but really not up to snuff for anyone who is not looking for a mindless 'shoot 'em up' type book.

Needs work

First I'd like to say this book has potential to be a good read the nannites and evil corporations was a good first start but one this book should have been longer quite a bit longer although I do get this is probably just setting the stage for later books two there were grammar errors not incredibly bad but the person view kept shifting at odd places if your gonna have the story told by a the main character viewpoint then stick with that and only use other viewpoint to bring in necessary plot points. There were some mechanics in the book that didn't really make sense like the back tire being blown out and them not crashing. Using the nannies to pull off really cool stuff is fine that's the entire point just make sure everything else works the way it should. But I have to say if you can work out the problems in this book I will definitely continue reading this series.

This is a nice short action story

This is a nice short action story. Think of it this way: an action short for YouTube, where the heroine develops superpowers, the mad scientist is an idiot (in a totally mad science way) and the evil company is represented by in the typically greedy, causally evil guy in charge. So, fun to read.

Do not, however, think too hard about character's motivations, or peer review, or academics. Don't think too hard about plot, or science, or computers, or artificial intelligence. Don't worry about the government, or the police, or lawsuits or anything like that. This is a fun action story, so don't mess it up by thinking too much!

This is a good book.

Today I spend an hour hiding in conference room get a piece of coding done, did not reply emails until 3:00 pm, got out of the office at 5:15 pm, and I felt this is the most productive day for the last 5 months. Thank you for letting me off the mindless corp. treadmill, if just for a while, and think what I am good at and what I really want to do.

Smallville is back and better than ever!

Smallville first aired on the WB, now CW, when I was 13 years old. From that moment on I was hooked. I spent ten long years watching as farm boy Clark Kent slowly transitioned to the world's greatest hero, Superman. And when Season 10 came to a close I thought the series had as well. It was bittersweet yet saddening. And, like countless other fans, I wanted more. I wanted to see Clark going about his life as Superman. Fortunately, I got my wish.

Smallville Season 11 picks up only a few months after the TV series finale and drops you right back into the middle of Clark Kent/Superman's world as he has fully embraced his destiny. But alas, with Superheroes come Supervillains and Lex Luthor is as vile as they come. The memories from all ten seasons and his life previously have been wiped from his memory. Yet, he still maintains the same diabolical, calculating and despicable personality that the Man Of Steel's nemesis has always been known for.

Our hero's journey continues! So, if you loved the show make sure to pick this up because once you read it you'll be transported right back into the world of Smallville...and you will believe a man can fly!

The Adventure Continues....

One of my favorite television shows of the past decade was Smallville. To anyone who knows the absolute comic-book geek that I can be, this shouldn't be at all a surprise. Smallville is so called because it tells the story of a young Clark Kent as he grew up in Smallville, KS, and learned to deal with his powers. How does he grow up to become Superman? What are the trials and tribulations he undergoes? What type of upbringing do his parents give him? When does he first come across the iconic Superman villains and allies of the larger DC Comics universe?

These questions were answered over the ten seasons of the show, with the first five seasons establishing Clark's becoming a man and learning of his heritage. Seasons six and seven were a sort of "transition period" with Clark moving more and more of his life and "superheroing" to Metropolis, and then the last three seasons were basically almost all Metropolis, as our hero transitioned into becoming the Man of Steel.

Six months after Clark finally became Superman, this comic occurs. In Smallville, Season 11: Vol. 1, The Guardian, Clark is adjusting into his role as Superman and the mind-wiped Lex Luthor is becoming the iconic villain we all know and loathe. The unique thing about this version of Lex is two-fold. First off, he is a clone of the original Lex. He has Lex's brain, but is he Lex? Or is he not Lex? Does he have Lex's soul? We don't yet know. The other difference between this and the other versions of Lex Luthor is that this one doesn't know just why he hates Superman so much. He doesn't remember, and doesn't know his reasons are part of his forgotten memories. He just knows he hates and distrusts the Man of Steel.

The best thing, to me, about this comic was that we are able to see characters and see action that the show couldn't do. Due to legal constraints, which seem to be tighter in regards to movies, shows, and cartoons, they couldn't show certain characters on the small screen. And due to the limits of the network's budget, certain action couldn't be portrayed. Here, on the pages of a comic book, many characters, and a ton of action sequences, can be presented. It is awesome.

The part I don't like? Such small increments in the series due to it's existence as scheduled digital comics releases. It take quite a while for enough to make a volume to be released. Until then, until each volume is released and collected together, there isn't a point in reading this comic as the story is not just incomplete, but the bits of the story are so small. Nevertheless, it is definitely worth waiting for the volumes to be released so one can read them.

I loved the show, and I love Superman and Batman stories. This is why I'm looking forward to the next volume, where Batman is introduced into the Smallville universe via the comic-book page.

The Return of Smallville

It has been six months since Clark donned the mantle of Superman and saved the world from Darkseid. Stepping into the light, he is a source of hope and inspiration to a Metropolis that now knows of aliens. However, everything is not perfect.

Tess is dead, killed by Lex. In her last moments, she used a nano-toxin to wipe Lex's memories of everything that happened in Smallville. He is a blank slate and is determined to make the world safe from what he considers an alien threat waiting to happen. The first part of this plan will be the Guardian satellite system. When something goes wrong, Clark Ken and Los Lane have to ask one question: "What is Lex up to now?"

Meanwhile Oliver "Green Arrow" Queen and Chloe Sullivan investigate a crashed spaceship in Smallville. The occupent is here with one warning: crisis.

OK, I’ll admit it. I didn’t think I was going to like this book. But it surprised me. It is, in my opinion, just the sort of thing its intended audience needs, and quite well executed.

Most American mathematics departments offer a regular course in geometry, usually aimed mostly at future teachers. Given that students now arrive in college with very little geometrical knowledge, these courses have settled on a fairly standard pattern. First, one does a little synthetic geometry, following Euclid as modified by Hilbert, in more or less detail and at varying levels of rigor. Next comes some (still synthetic) non-Euclidean geometry, usually very lightly done. At that point, coordinates, vectors, and transformations can come in, which creates the opportunity to introduce various other kinds of geometry (especially projective) and/or to spend some time considering symmetries of the plane and related topics (Meyer does the latter). From there on, one is free to consider special topics; Meyer chooses to do a little bit of the theory of polyhedra.

All this is fairly standard, as is the provision, made through a web site, of software support (in this case, using Geometer’s Sketchpad). What makes Meyer’s book stand out are two things. First, he puts to good use his experience in industry (at Grumman Corporation, where he ran a robotics research program) in order to present applications that, while usually simple, seem real. This includes some fairly important (and non-classical) material, such as a discussion of Voronoi diagrams.

The second is harder to pin down; I’d describe it as the book’s “voice”: a humane, intelligent, reflective way of discussing things that is quite interesting to read. Read his discussion of what axioms are, early in the first chapter, to see what I mean. If we can get students to read the book and think about what they read, they’ll learn a lot from this book.

So: this may look fairly traditional (especially from the outside), but it’s actually quite creative and very well done. Anyone teaching this kind of geometry course should consider adopting this book.

About the Author
Walter Meyer received his Ph.D. at the University of Wisconsin in 1969. He is currently a professor at Adelphi University, and visiting professor at West Point Military Academy. He has industrial experience as head of robotics research at Grumman Data Systems. He is editor of Principles and Practice of Mathematics, as well as a contributing author to For All Practical Purposes.

Good practical book

This book is a good college level textbook, with a lot of practical applications for geometry. Good for a college text to prepare geometry teachers to deal with questions from students like, "What will I ever need to use geometry for?" I really liked that the book has solutions to the odd numbered problems and the sections in each chapter on how geometry applies to everyday problems faced in physics and engineering. The CD was a nice supplement to use with geometers sketchpad.

I got this book as a second hand and shortly its very very nice book.
The applications are very smart and clear ,
Its contexts and illustrations are adequate ,precise and really easy to read and understand.
I realy loved this book ,and i guess this is how the geometry Should be taught as rich ideas with apps not in abstract form.
You will find a nice proof for fermat's least time principle,
and lots lots more intersting ideas good for physics and computer
graphics programming.
This book really worth any price.

Born in Tokyo in 1933, Yoko Ono moved to New York in the mid-1950s and became a critical link between the American and Japanese avant-gardes. Ono's groundbreaking work greatly influenced the international development of Conceptual art, performance art and experimental film and music. In celebration of Ono's 80th birthday in 2013, the Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt organized a major traveling retrospective.

Great book by a misunderstood artist

Since 1968, Yokophobia has prevented people from perceiving reality correctly. Yokophobia was brought on largely because John Lennon was "supposed" to marry a white woman, oh, and, another thing, because the Beatles broke up. Since she has been blamed for this, shattering the delusion that a rock band should last forever (look at the Rolling Stones now for goodness sake!), people have been unusually mean-spirited in their assessment of her work. I can understand why people shy away from her more avant-garde musical output, often consisting of ear-shattering screams (I am one of those sickos that just happens to love it!). But "Grapefruit," one of the most widely distributed pieces of Fluxus-connected/inspired "performance art," is simply irresistible. (Remember, Yoko had a career as an avant-garde artist before she met John Lennon--they met at one of her art exhibits in 1967.) It is serious, excruciatingly humorous and regularly induces smiles--all while simultaneously encouraging its readers to think abstractly, artistically, creatively and irreverently. "Grapefruit" is a breath of fresh sky-blue air from the woman who once asked (on the b-side of John Lennon's "Instant Karma") "Who Has Seen the Wind?"
"Grapefruit" is filled, for the most part, with short, koan-like "pieces" such as "Wall Piece for Orchestra." Yoko directs the piece as follows: "Hit a wall with your head." In "Overtone Piece," Yoko writes, "Make music only with overtones." In the painting pieces section, she instructs her reader, in "Painting for the Wind," to "Make a hole. / Leave it in the wind." In the "events" section, probably the closest here to her performance art, she evokes a giggly pun on "peace" (or maybe "pee") in "Pea Piece," writing, "Carry a bag of peas. / Leave a pea wherever you go." If you find this type of humor and "artistic direction" a waste of time, which many undoubtedly will, then avoid this like the plague. But if you, like me, find this darkly humorous, refreshingly perverse and instructive as to how to live life seriously without taking it too seriously, then "Grapefruit" should find a place on your bookshelf, or, better yet, on your nightstand.

Master Piece

I bought this book in England in 1970 when it was released with the charming cover of a grapefruit atop a female posterior.
I loved the book and kept it rather than follow Yoko's instructions to burn it afterward.
Yesterday I read it again. It is funny how one's perceptions change over thirty years for better or for worse.
My conclusion is that this book is a Master Piece.

my son says thank you

so my son takes a popcicle to school in his backpack and is surprised when it explodes all over his books. I got a call from the librarian telling me I need to replace two of his books. sticker price was like $400. thank you amazon! although my son will be paying his allowance back for the better part of the near future, at least we got a great deal on his replacement books.

Good basic book

This is a good 6th grade book. Make sure you order the student workbook to go with it. My only complaint is the layout is a bit confusing for some students (the book, not the workbook. The workbook is great).

About the Author
Thich Nhat Hanh is one of the best-known and respected Zen masters in the world today. He is the founder of a Buddhist university, a publishing house, an influential peace activist magazine, and the School of Youth Social Service, a grassroots relief organization that provided aid to Vietnamese citizens in the 1960s. He is also the founder of Plum Village, a Buddhist community that works to alleviate the suffering of refugees, political prisoners, and hungry families in Vietnam and throughout the third world. He is the author of Creating True Peace and Living Buddha, Living Christ, as well as a number of poems and stories.

A Long-Awaited Treasure

Thich Nhat Hanh has written a book that helped me to touch the very deepest roots of suffering, anger, violence and neglect within myself, and the generations that are a part of me. A path toward living happily and at peace even amidst suffering. Through the teachings, stories and practices offered in this book, I found the fertilizer for my own practice. Taken to heart, applied honestly, with wisdom and with encouragement from trusted friends, the flowering of peace within individuals, families and society can be made possible.

Thich Nhat Hanh writes, "Many of us practice sitting meditation in order to run away from suffering...we behave like a rabbit going back into its hole in the earth in order to feel protected...We do this because we suffer so much, we want some kind of rest, some kind of running away. But that is not the true purpose of meditation...We have to use our intelligence and concentration to get insight, transform the suffering within, and become a Buddha, an enlightened one, a free person...Without suffering, without the understanding of suffering, true happiness is impossible."

My advice: Buy this book for yourself, for a person you love, and for a person you think may need it, who may be open to receiving it. Smile, and enjoy!

If you made it this far.....

I am not one to review every item I buy from Amazon, but as a Hanh reader and someone who is a father to a beautiful young man I feel I have something to communicate with you. My father left the family when I was five and after 35 years of no correspondence, I didn't know if he was dead or alive, he decides to come back and "complete the circle".

You know, I was quite well to this man and gave him a clean slate, until I found that he had lied to me about a step sister I didn't know of. That is where the relationship turned as I went into warrior stance precipitated by the wounded youngster in me. As a father myself I have gained some tools and without this book I wouldn't know how to be my own father. I know, sounds a bit strange but bear with me.

Upon further reviews of my father relative to behaviors, my sister (the mental health pro), diagnosed him with NPD ([...]). This is an important part prior to my reading of Reconciliation as it added a POV for my forgiveness and understanding of someone who hurt me very much and who had also been hurt very much himself growing up.

Basically the book connects the dots that we are everyone of our ancestors, good, bad and ugly. Alive or dead, and even if we did not get to know them very well we carry their genetics and through our parents inherited the problems that they could not reconcile.

I can not stress the importance of this wonderful book as I believe everyone should read it. I will buy a copy for my father and with Thich Nhat Hanh's help I believe I will not commute the family issues any further, but instead bring a view of the suffering as a opportunity to learn more compassion.
