I found it a bit confusing at first to keep the characters straight. A genealogy chart would have been helpful. Also whoever "proofed" this book missed a couple of typos that should have been caught.

Well done

There are two things that I love, genealogy and mystery, and this book filled both. I have to agree with everyone else, this is book that kept me reading, not wanting to put it down. When I couldn't read, I was thinking about what would happen next. As the main character said that as she looked into her family line, the people became real to her, that's how I felt about characters as I read. I almost hate to have it end. I have already recommended this to my friends.

Hard to put down

I enjoyed this book a great deal. It was a page-turner for me. There was a bit of supernatural that does not usually interest me, but there were so many hooks that pulled me in and kept me wanting more. I did not give it five stars because there were dozens of proofreading errors that interrupted reading rhythm. Even so, I am anxiously awaiting the next M.K. Jones book.

Fantastic!

I bought this book as a back to school gift for my 11 year old niece and ended up reading it myself. The stories are so true-to-life that anyone at any age can identify with them. I can't wait to give it to my niece; I know she'll love it!

You have to read this book

"What do I remember most about school?" is the first question asked in the introduction of the fiction book Tripping over the Lunch Lady: and Other School Stories edited by Nancy Mercado. This book features ten different school stories written by ten different children's book authors, including Angela Johnson, author of Toning the Sweeps and Heaven, both winners of a Coretta Scott King Award, Avi author of the True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, winner of a Newberry Honor Award and Terry Trueman's author of Struck in Neutral, winner of a Michael L. Printz Honor Award.
I thought that this book was a great, easy read, and of course hilarious. Even though the target audience is middle schoolers, however people of all ages would enjoy reading this book because somehow they can relate. I found myself remember all the fun and not so fun times of middle school while reading. Also, after reading each story, I found myself going back to that first question asked in the introduction "What do I remember most about school?" and being happy that nothing as crazy as these stories happened to me while I was in middle school. The stories range from ones about the troubles of gym class, the mystery of the smell in the desk and a boy's grandmother who always yells "bussa." My favorite story had to be How I got my English A by Avi which is about a boy who is not quiet an expert at English. He says things like "I can harldy spel the alfabet," I sez. One day him and his teacher get held hostage when they go down to the basement and things only get crazy from there when they encounter a guy who also isn't great at English. By the end of the story I couldn't stop laughing, and after you read it, you won't be able to as well. So How did he get his English A? Which of the ten authors says that the worse smell at school was kids throwing up in the closet? Why is the grandma always yelling "bussa" in the story The Grade School Zone? Find out by reading Tripping Over the Lunch Lady and Other School Stories which has been said to be "In this collection of hilarious short stories, we get a double-dose of laughter, along with a side of goulash, served up by top-flight writers..."-ALAN Review and that "Students will likely see themselves in these 10 appetizing stories about the ups and many downs of school life . . . Fun for the family

I read this recently with my 2nd grader. The cover on this looked like so much fun I figured I'd give it a try. I was afraid my 7 year old would be too too young for these stories but he LOVED them. We're also very excited to have found a new author that we really like -- David Lubar! "Are too, are not, R2-D2" a line from Lubar's story which is constantly recited at our house. We also really enjoyed the mini author bios at the end of each story.

THROWN TOGETHER BY A STORM

What a cute and fun story with sass! Laurel Danner aka Sassafras moves to Colorado after inheriting her late Aunt Ida's cabin. New neighbor James Caulderfield and Laurel but heads from the beginning. The story keeps the pages turning with heartwarming moments, as well as, laugh out loud antics. The dialog is entertaining as these two become better acquainted. Stubborn meets Sassy! I love a story with two people who butt heads until they realize they actually care for each other.

Alright, I've returned this for a refund. I've never done that with a book I didn't like, and it's very rare I write a review. First of all, the writing was extremely rushed. The plot was super rushed. The two main characters meet each other like 3 pages into the book and are already fighting. There's very little suspense. I stopped reading about 30% of the way in. It was very boring.

Claimed is a Must Have . It is a great read.

I received an ARC copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.

This was a wild ride from beginning to end--Ambra Hathaway started the night going to her engagement party, one her step father had arranged for her. She didn’t love the man she was engaged to but to save her step father and his business, she would marry the devil himself.
She went to go down to her engagement party and one minutes all is ok and next, she is kidnapped from the party by her step brother , Ethan Cartwright, who she hasn’t seen in over 3 years. One who once she told how much she loved, he disappeared out of her life. Oh the confrontation by Ambra over Ethan “kidnapping” her and whisking her off in a limo was great The scenes when they get to Ethan’s home were classic SB writing and I couldn’t get enough of the H/h lines.

There is some back story as to why Ethan stayed away and there are some really great bedroom scenes between Ethan and Ambra which is what makes this a great SB book. This is a standalone and has a wonderful epilogue which, as a reader, I very much appreciated. I think only thing I would have liked is maybe to have had a quick page or two of a young Ethan and Ambra to show them to get a glimpse of them in love before the story goes right into where she is kidnapped but that is IMO. Otherwise this is a great story and I cannot wait for the next one.

Decisions, decisions....

I received a free copy of this book as a member of Stephanie Brother's ART team for an honest review. I really like the story line and characters....Ethan and Ambra. I wasn't too keen on the fact that he "loved" her but hadn't been celibate over the 3 years they had been apart.....him waiting for her to "grow up." She did give him 2 days to prove himself which I would have loved that type of proving! I have ready pretty much everything written by Stephanie Brother and can honestly say I have been disappointed yet. If you are looking for a good book and a short read then I definitely recommend!

This is a great book for anyone needing a primer on the concepts of HL7 2.x. Not only is it a great book for the busy professional, but builds a good base for technical and programming staff to start their journey into the HL7 world. I would highly recomend this book for the hl7 beginner.

Most relevant book on Contemporary Art I've read so far

Having studied Fine Art at University which included an intense Art History component, I found that I have been quite comfortable with most History prior to Duchampian Theory... then I get a little confused. Terry Smith goes to great depths in making this possibly confusing subject relatively easy to understand.

Within his essay he divides contemporary art up into three components: mainstream Modernism, retro-sensationalism and post colonial. Through investigating current galleries and artists Smith is able to lay his case open.

Drugs and Contemporary Art

It is impossible to read this book without a thesaurus and a dictionary beside you. Even then, drugs are needed to reach the trance like state that is necesary to get yourelf through this book. There are some useful messages at the end of a book that could have been written in a quarter of the space but by the time I got to the messages I was brain dead. The sad thing is that there is ample excellent material in the book to have made a real difference to the understanding of contemporary art by the wider community but that opportunity has been lost for the moment.

Allison did a fantastic job throughout describing an extremely hard topic for the reader to truly appreciate. Her attention to detail on May’s change in behavior can only help us parents to see even the slightest changes in our own children.

The author certainly opens the door for us to discuss rape and the results of it; especially for the victims and the gamut of emotions they experience. I look forward to reading more of Allison’s books.

Leaves You in Stunned Silence

I just want to say that this has easily become one of my top reads of 2015. The Choice is beautifully written, and so powerful with its message. My interpretation of the message (every book has a different message for each of its readers) is that time heals everything. Life can be cruel and cold, but with time events can be reflected upon and a sense of peace can be created. Most of the time we think time is working against us, because we never know what tomorrow will bring. Time has lost our appreciation when really it deserves our utmost respect. Has anyone heard of the saying, "Time heals all wounds?" I have no idea who said it, but whoever said it was right. The time might be two days, a few months, or 10 years, but there will come a day when the past can be let go. I read The Choice from start to finish in one seating, and it left me sitting in stunned silence. I was exhausted after I read this book in the best possible way ever! Kennedy takes your emotions on one hell of a ride called reality.

The Choice is a story about a 17 year old girl, May, who is raped and conceives the rapist's child. She keeps the rape a secret, and tries to process through the emotions she is feeling by herself. Then she struggles with whether or not she should abort her unborn child. Kennedy tackles two tough and emotional topics, and does so tactfully. She shows no favor to either side of each topic, if anything she includes every side.

I loved the style The Choice was written in. Throughout the book, May in present day reflects on how she is now, and then reflects on what happened when she was raped and the days that followed. This particular formatting allows us to see where she starts with all the emotions and years later how she has grown and healed.

To be honest with you guys, this review isn't giving any justice to this book. The book drips with raw emotions. You feel May's pains and struggles. You will shed tears and your heart will be jerked in all different directions. When you finally start thinking that everything will be okay something else is thrown into the pot causing everything to go wrong again. The Choice covers difficult and controversial topics, but I encourage you to choose to read this book. Kennedy's writing walks you side by side with May, and makes you wish you could actually be there for her in real life.

This book even though covering tough subjects, rape and abortion, was amazing. The story was heart wrenching and written so well. An emotional read that will stay with me for a long time. I will be recommending this book to many of my friends who like to read about real life stories and topics.

I received this book for early review through LibraryThing giveaway but this in no way swayed my rating and review of this book. It is truly a five star book!
